The
Kite Making Handbook is an ideal
first time buy for anyone interested in kites. It
gives a concise insight into the kite flying world
spanning the legend and history of kite flying in
ancient China to ward off evil spirits to the modern
day international kite-flying festivals and competitions.
With over 400 illustrations this book is packed with
detailed step-by-step instructions on how to make
a whole range of kites including the materials and
techniques needed to create the simplest of flat and
box kites to the more complicated fighting and acrobatic
flying models with names such as Box Delta, Nagasaki
Hata and the Peter Powell. Once built, flying the
kite is the next challenge and here the Italian authors
have useful tips for getting the kite off the ground
and dealing with varying wind conditions to avoid
untimely landings. The various chapters are interspersed
with anecdotes and factual gems on kites, making this
book an enjoyable read as well as an informative hobby
kite-makers guide. |

Full, easy-to-follow instructions for novel kites made from inexpensive materials. 70 illus.
This book is a reprint of a 1929 publication. As such, some of the construction techniques, particularly the making of glue and paste, will be "unexpectedly practical" for many modern readers.
These kite designs work as well today as they did in 1929. Substituting modern materials like Tyvek house wrap and packing tape make these designs stronger and quite a bit easier to build.
This is a good activity book for parents and children.

This is my first "expensive" kite and the reason I bought it was because I was so impressed by the colors when I saw it displayed in a shop, that I just couldn't resist. The price was good, but this site is better.
I must say that when I flew it for the first time recently here in Lancaster, SC, I was amazed! You don't need another person to help, just hold it up and let the tail take the breeze which will right the plane instantly in the wind. It flies easily and stable, and the sight of it flying in the sky is impressive, to say the least. It REALLY draws attention! One guy pulled over in a truck and said, "Now THAT is a KITE!" I have to agree with him - it's a sight to see!!
